SARID, San Antonio Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, is a local chapter of TSID, Texas Society of Interpreters for the Deaf. A non-profit organization, SARID is dedicated to enhancing the professional development of its member interpreters and to better serve, the Deaf Community.
The inception of SARID was on May 1, 2000 when a group of local interpreters met at the Royal Palace Ballroom for an educational workshop and to discuss the needs of the local community. The consensus was that a formal group was vital to their cause, and plans were made to elect a board at the next meeting on 18 July 2000. Charter board members were Michela Steele (President); Edie Scott [Huff] (Vice President); Nelda Ellerbee (Secretary); Amber Goertz [Galloway] (Treasurer); and Michelle Becker [Theiss] (Historian). Soon thereafter, the group’s petition to become a local chapter affiliated with TSID was granted.
SARID hosted the very successful TSID conference in 2004, and will again in 2010. SARID continues to offer support for fellow interpreters, welcome students, and provide professional development through workshops and interactions. |
